What is poverty?

Community Hands Against Poverty is a small national nonprofit organisation that works to alleviate poverty by feeding those in need through sustainable agriculture projects, child feeding programs, community outreaches, disaster relief, and raising awareness about poverty's causes.

Poverty is more than a lack of money or food. Poverty can have long-term effects on a person's mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being.

The following are some of the long-term effects of poverty on an individual:

  1. Possibility of homelessness.

  2. Malnutrition

  3. Access to health, legal, and social services is limited.

  4. Lack of self-assurance

  5. Abuse or exploitation

  6. drug abuse and substance use

  7. lack of income

  8. Lack of peace

  9. Mental illness

  10. Divorce and dept

Understanding the reality of poverty in our communities is the first step toward eliminating poverty in all of its forms. Share facts and stories to help start important conversations about poverty during Anti-Poverty Week.

or   Participate in our campaigns and those of others.
